Black on Black + Studded Scarf - Modesty Theory
Do you like this story?
Back in high school I used to wear a black headscarf everyday cause I thought black matches everything, right? But then I would never wear a black top, in fact I didn't even own a black top back in high school. I felt like black head scarf + black top made me look either emo, goth, mad boring, or like I was in mourning. When I stopped wearing a black headscarf all the time, I made sure that whenever I wore a black top I'd pair it with a brightly colored scarf...
not until recently have I allowed myself to wear more than one black piece in the same outfit. I find the best way to wear all black is to mix it up with different textures, different cuts, and embellishments. It adds interest and a little "oomph" to what would be an otherwise drab black ensemble.
Lots of designers have put out entire collections of black on black ensembles for this season, most of them filled with dark and ominous vibes. Some of the collections fall on the "goth" side while others fall on the "punk" side. Either way my fav black on black looks remind me of the current vampire craze. Think Twilight, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries.
Black on black, pale skin, red lips, and studs for your viewing pleasure:
Moschino DSquared
Jean Paul Gaultier
Karl Lagerfield Herve Leger by Max Azria
Alexandre Herchcovitch Hermes
Remember how I said I had this black hijab that I wasn't quite sure how to wear? Well I was inspired by all these looks and here is how I wore it:
Studded Headscarf: Burlington Coat Factory
Boyfriend Blazer: Mandee
Button down shirt: Mandee
Skinny Jeans: Wet Seal
Nude Flats: Mandee
I felt super cool in this outfit. I love the leopard print on the inside of the blazer, I think it makes the blazer all the more special :] And the shirt works well because even though it's black, it's like a faded vintage washed type of black which offsets the deeper richer blacks of the rest of the outfit nicely. Plus I like the little design on it! And then there's the studded scarf which I think totally added the extra "oomph" to this entire outfit, I mean just look at how shiny it is *0* Also, I had to wear nude shoes because a tiny part of me still refuses to wearing black entirely :(
